Homeschooling

Dear Prospective Homeschool Parent/Guardian,

If you are interested in homeschooling your child, please notify me in writing of your plans for the 2025-2026 School year. After receipt of your letter, all appropriate forms will be mailed to you in order to assist you with this process.

The New York State Education Department has adopted certain regulations, which require Boards of Education to develop and implement policies to ensure the appropriate delivery of home instruction. Our policy requires the following:

  • Suitable teaching materials are used and a suitable schedule is planned
  • The program is substantially equivalent to that necessary to meet the requirements of West Babylon Schools and the New York State Education Department
  • A program is planned by the parents to monitor the progress of students. Evidence of academic progress shall be determined by standardized tests
  • Parents and/or guardians agree to submit a home instruction worksheet for the purpose of reviewing academic progress and attendance
  • Attendance records are kept and submitted to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on a quarterly basis

Additionally, click the link below for detailed information on the NYS 100.10 Home Instruction regulation. http://www.nysed.gov/curriculum-instruction/10010-home-instruction Approval for home instruction is granted only after the request for such a program is reviewed by the Superintendent or her designee, Scott Payne, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Approval is granted for one school year, and requests for home instruction need to be made annually. Home schooled students do not receive any additional services from the district, i.e. tutoring.

For more information or if you have any further questions, please call (631) 376-7191 or email Mr. Scott Payne.
