West Babylon Senior High School has been named a School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, recognizing the school’s commitment to academic achievement among its student-athletes.

To earn the School of Excellence designation, at least 75% of a school’s varsity teams must receive the association’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award. To qualify for the Scholar-Athlete Team Award, the average grade point average of the top 75 % of a team’s roster must be at least 90%.

This year, 237 schools statewide earned the School of Excellence designation. According to the association, the awards recognize schools that have demonstrated an “exceptional commitment to academic achievement.”

The School of Excellence recognition reflects the dedication of West Babylon Senior High School’s student-athletes, coaches and staff and celebrates the importance of balancing success in the classroom with participation in interscholastic athletics.
