JFK Student Praised for Bravery, Quick Thinking

Richard Duncan, a student at John F. Kennedy Elementary School, is being recognized for his bravery and quick thinking after helping prevent a potentially tragic situation in his neighborhood. When Richard and his sister noticed a fire starting behind a neighboring home, Richard immediately called 911 to alert authorities. Thanks to his fast actions, first responders quickly arrived on the scene and were able to prevent the fire from becoming even more dangerous. Richard’s quick thinking helped save both a mother and her baby who were inside the home at the time.
In recognition of his actions, firefighters presented Richard with a special bandana as a token of appreciation for doing the right thing and remaining calm during the emergency.
The West Babylon School District is incredibly proud of Richard for demonstrating courage, responsibility and care for others while helping keep his community safe.
