Tooker Avenue Artwork of Arctic Animals on Display

First and second grade artwork from students at Tooker Avenue Elementary School was recently on display in the West Babylon Public Library. The artwork was featured children’s area in January as part of a collaboration between the West Babylon art department and the West Babylon Public Library to help promote the arts in the schools and in the community.
Under the direction of their art teacher Janice Dougherty, first grade art classes created walrus portraits. Following a guided drawing lesson, students utilized lines and shapes to create an oil pastel. Second grade artists created moonlit polar bear scenes. Students created artwork using short lines in the style of artist Alma Thomas.
Large scale polar bear and walrus themed coloring sheets were also created as part of the display by Mrs. Dougherty. These were then colored by the community during recent library visitation and displayed on the book ends of the library.
