Third Graders Connect World Cultures to Home

Third graders at John F. Kennedy Elementary School recently explored global cultures through a social studies unit focused on Kenya, China and Brazil. To bring their learning full circle, they completed a meaningful culminating project that connected world cultures to their own family histories.
As part of the project, students interviewed family members to learn more about their traditions, holiday celebrations, favorite recipes and important life events. They then used this information to create colorful posters that highlighted both their heritage and the similarities shared across cultures.
Students proudly presented their projects to their classmates, sparking conversations about diversity, identity and respect. The finished posters are now on display outside the third grade classrooms, allowing the entire school community to learn about the rich backgrounds that make each student unique.
