West Babylon Senior High School senior Alex Burkhardt was recently accepted into Brookhaven National Laboratory’s User Facility Summer School. This four-week summer program allows high school students to experience hands-on research and obtain STEM experience utilizing Brookhaven’s multiple state-of-the-art facilities. Alex will have the opportunity to work at the Tandem Van de Graaff, the National Synchrotron Light Source II and the Center for Functional Nanomaterials, in which he and other students will develop scientific questions and learn how research is conducted between these facilities. In addition, Alex will have the opportunity to work with renowned Brookhaven scientific staff. At the conclusion of the program, he will present his research to these scientists and his peers.
