Forest Avenue Elementary School held its first Scripps National Spelling Bee for students in third, fourth and fifth grade. Forest Avenue School is excited to “bee” participating as the Scripps National Spelling Bee celebrates its 100th year.

Participants studied the spelling word lists for more than a month before taking on the challenge. Each grade level from three through five held its own competition. After vying for the title of grade level winner, three students were entered into the final round of competition on Nov. 25.

Fourth grader Bruno Garcia was crowned the spelling bee winner after more than 40 rounds of competition. He will be attending the regional bee at Hofstra University in February. In second place was fifth grader Liam Johnson and in third place was third grader Valentino Charles.
