In a heartwarming ceremony held on the West Babylon Junior High School football field, the West Babylon community gathered to celebrate the graduation of the West Babylon Senior High School Class of 2024 on June 26. The event was marked by inspiring speeches, beautiful musical performances and a sense of accomplishment with a touch of nostalgic remembrance following a 13-year educational journey.

The proceedings began with Anna Bricker, president of the National Honor Society, leading the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the National Anthem and God Bless America performed by the senior high school band.

Valedictorian Kai Miller, Salutatorian Cole Bricker and Class of 2024 President Matthew Cella all addressed their peers, each delivering heartfelt speeches that reflected on their high school years, the bonds formed and their lessons learned. The speeches were a celebration of the unique identity of the Class of 2024, highlighting their achievements and shared experiences.

A particularly poignant moment was the speech delivered by Board of Education president Lucy Campasano, who is retiring after an impressive 29 years of service on the board. Ms. Campasano reminisced about her time serving West Babylon and expressed her pride in the class of 2024, as well as her gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the community.

Following Ms. Campasano, Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly, superintendent of schools, took the stage, offering words of wisdom and encouragement to the graduates. She emphasized the importance of perseverance and lifelong learning, urging the students to pursue their passions and make a positive impact in the world. “As you step into this new chapter of your life, remember that academic success and hard work are vital, but equally as important is your character, your integrity, your actions and how you treat others,” she said.

Prior to the conferring of diplomas High School Principal Stephen O’Leary highlighted the achievements of the graduating class, expressed pride in their resilience and dedication and spoke on the strong bonds they have formed during their years in West Babylon. “Remember that your ability to cultivate these bonds lies with you and no one else,” he said. He encouraged the seniors, as they move on into adulthood and the next chapter of their lives, to remember where they come from. “Be proud of where you’ve come from and remember that you have the weight and support of this community behind you at all times.”

The graduation ceremony was a testament to the hard work, dedication and community spirit that define the Class of 2024. It marked not only the end of one chapter but also the beginning of new adventures for the Class of 2024.
