Fourth and fifth grade students from Forest Avenue Elementary School recently participated in the Town of Babylon’s Department of Environmental Control sixth annual Waterways Poster Contest in memory of Burt Koza. The students were challenged with creating a poster to raise awareness of the importance of being good stewards in taking care of our planet, specifically the waterways. The Burt Koza Waterways Poster Contest provides students with a way for them to be active members of their community by creating posters to teach others the importance of our local waterways.

On May 4, the Town of Babylon hosted its Earth Day Celebration at Geiger Park.  Forest Avenue Elementary School students took first, second and third place in the contest.  First place was awarded to Zarah Valentina Gomez (fifth grade), second place was given to Gianna Giannini (fourth grade), and the third place winner was Pearl Kruska (fifth grade). Honorable mentioned were also awarded to Zulmy Fuentes Reyes and Thiago Pintado Garcia.
