Bond Referendum

November 2019

July 2018

There is plenty of construction activity going on during the summer months to help keep our facilities up to date. At the high school and John F. Kennedy Elementary School, the kitchen ceilings have been replaced. At the high school, there’s been an asbestos abatement of the floor tiles and fire-rated wall installation.

Prior to the April 5 varsity baseball game, the district held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new turf baseball field. The field was part of the district’s January 2015 community-approved Preserving Our Facilities capital project. Bond Referendum at Work – July 2016

Construction work has been steadily progressing this summer throughout the district, as upgrades continue from the bond referendum approved by West Babylon voters in January 2015.

The second phase of floor tile replacements is underway at both John F. Kennedy Elementary School and the junior high school. The abatement of lead ceramic tiles in cafeteria B at the junior high is also continuing.

Also at the junior high, much work is taking place outside including the replacement of sidewalks, curbing and the parking lot.

Work is ongoing at the high school to upgrade its athletic facilities, both inside and out. A new floor is being installed this summer in the main gymnasium. Outside, the site is being prepared for a new multi-purpose synthetic turf field.

Bond Referendum at Work – August 2015

Contractors and facility staff workers have been hard at work this summer implementing some of the buildings and grounds renovations made possible by the community-approved bond referendum.
At John F. Kennedy Elementary School, the parking lot is getting a fresh coat of blacktop and curbs ahead of the coming school year, while inside, the classrooms were given a fresh coat of paint and beautiful new tile work on some of the floors.
At West Babylon Junior High School, Cafeteria A and some of the hallways were outfitted with new floor tiles.
Work on the turf field is also underway, as contractors installed a new drainage system that runs under the turf to prevent flooding and water damage to the field.

Phase 1 of Capital Bond Project Is Underway – July 2015

Construction on Phase 1 of the capital project bond referendum, which was approved by community residents on Jan. 13, 2015, has officially begun! Following approval from the State Education Department, multiple projects are taking place this summer at the junior high school and JFK Elementary School.

At the JHS, workers will remove and replace crawlspace pipes, perform asbestos tile abatement in certain areas of the building, and install the turf field. JFK will also undergo asbestos tile abatement in certain areas of the building, as well as sitework (curbing).
